Japanese Iris, watercolor by Linda Young

Japanese Iris, Watercolor by L Young, 2013

With all the snow laying on the ground, I was feeling like I needed a little breath of spring.   I painted these Japanese Iris from a photo I took last year of them growing in my garden.  I noticed green shoots pushing through the leaves that protected them from the Winter's cold. Japanese Iris bloom one day and are gone the next; too bad because their delicate little petals are simply beautiful.  I wish they lasted longer to enjoy them.

Here today and gone tomorrow.

Thank you; I am looking forward to these little beauties coming up again this year but I thank you very much for taking the time to take a look.

Linda, this is a strong and beautiful watercolor. Are these like water iris? I have them in my garden after they jumped from the pots in the pond.

Charlotte, they are similar in the way that the flowers are small and very delicate. I have yellow ones by the pond; but these are located in my front garden.
