"mARTini Bouquet" by Linda Young

 "mARTini Bouquet" by LRYoung
14 x 17"
Watercolor

This is from an arrangement of flowers that I won a bid on at the mARTini Auction the Carlisle Arts Learning Center had this past November 2012.  That's why I've titled this unfinished painting "mARTini Bouquet".  It lasted quite a long time and the following Monday, I took it to my Monday art class with Jeanne Hartman to have other students work on too.  That class was in November too.

Unfortunately, I was the only one that wanted to do it because all the flowers were white.  Nobody wanted to tackle the white but I thought:  How hard could it be?

Hard!  White is difficult to put variations of color into and I'm even thinking I should outline some of the interior parts of the big mum.  I tried to use a high key palette of color for the centers of them to keep the softness of color.  I suppose I could have just changed the whole look of the flower by making it have hard edges in the inside. Any thoughts?

I will set this one aside for even more time to study it or wait for a revelation!

Lovely watercolor and I think you handled all the white very well. It seem everyone is painting flowers! Spring is a coming!

You handled these whites beautifully, Linda. If you emphasize the center of that mum, you won't need much. The colors are beautiful.

Ah yes; real and the bouquet actually lasted for nearly two weeks.
