HILLSIDE SYCAMORE, oil, 24x18 by Sharon Benner

The year ended with an accident and a large tear in the center of "Hillside Sycamore."  The frame was saved so I decided to repaint and improve the painting.  I've been working on it throughout the holidays, in between family get togethers and a lot of baby sitting and enjoying my grandchildren.

Happy New Year Everyone! Finished my last painting for 2012. Had a wonderful and progressive year. Thank you to all those who supported me with both sales and encouragement. I look forward to a prolific new year and more growth as an artist.

This painting was inspired by the corner of Main and York Streets, Mechanicsburg, PA. I plan to continue my new theme "Walking Through Townscapes" in 2013. This will give me the opportunity to paint familiar locations and include my fun quick serendipity blot figures.

Value Watercolor Portrait, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

This is a value sketch demonstration that I did for my watercolor students when we were working on portraits. I wanted them to see the shapes using values and then think of color later. It is a nice quick exercise to do before any portrait... or painting for that matter.

Spirits of the Night - Original Contemporary Acrylic Abstract Painting by Pennsylvania Artist Pat Koscienski

Spirits of the Night
11" x 14"
Acrylic

This painting was named "Spirits of the Night" because when I created it I saw an ethereal, spirited quality in the background area.  Today, I'm seeing the snow in my woods outside my studio.  It's nice to be sitting here enjoying it and the birds eating off the feeders; the squirrels eating their corn and chasing each other around the trees.  If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, please contact PAT.  If you would like to see more of my paintings, please visit my blogspot and website at:

ROCKVILLE BRIDGE OVER FRONT STREET By Cecelia Lyden

oil
11x14

Before I start my description of the above scene, I want to thank DPP and the SVPAP artists for the gifts and the words of sympathy for the loss of our son. The support and comfort we are receiving from family and friends is so helpful. Being able to resume painting is also a godsend. I have said this before; we are so lucky to have art in our lives. It can consume our thoughts and take our minds off sad things for a while.

I started this painting a few weeks ago and just finished today. I painted it from a photo I took while driving on Front Street in Harrisburg. I loved the dark clouds and the sun's light shining on the tops of the train cars, as well as the road winding through the underpass.

Pet Portrait Commission in mixed media

14x18
Mixed colored pencil/pastel
I did not post this commission before Christmas for the fear of ruining my customers surprise. I used a different technique on this because of time constraints. I used Mi-teints sanded paper and applied the background with a soft pastel then the cats and dog were done in colored pencil. The colars are a little off on this photo but the customer was happy with the end results.

SELF PROTRAIT IN FUZZY SLIPPERS by Nancy Herman

SELF PORTRAIT IN FUZZY SLIPPERS
8" x 6"
oil on canvas board

Tis the day before Christmas and all through the house children are using their hand held devices to communicate with each other in languages which seem to consist of one or two semi well chosen letters.
But I am still in my slippers padding around hoping my choice of presents isn't too out of date or just plain stupid .
Last night I held the latest addition to the family, four month old Olive, and, as we gazed into each other's eyes, I realized as I never have before, what a rare exotic species the new born are.  So hot with potential, they almost burst out of their skins.  They could be anything.  What will they make of us? And what then will they make of the world?  If Olive is any indication,  it will be a vital energetic place, and mabe,  just maybe, they will get it right this time around.  If only we can steer them in the right direction and get out of the way in time.

Merry Christmas to all! by Tatiana Myers

Burden Burro Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Burden Burro
original watercolor w/donkey, poppy, horn: 11" x 14"

orphaned and yet
the feeling I get
is one of relief
along side the grief
tis mine but to bear
like that burro up there
who carries his load
while he trots down the road
I watch him go by
and hear myself sigh
that’s how this life goes
but it’s still hard to know

"Remember When" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

"Remember When" 20"x26" watercolor, artist private collection

This is a painting reflecting a Christmas past from my family. I just loved those PJ's.  Hoping that we will all count our blessings and be thankful for our times together. I'm very thankful to all my family, friends, customers and clients and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

To contact me about the purchase of prints of this painting or see more of my work go to http://www.debkreiger.com/or follow my blog at debkreiger.blogspot.com or you can shop in my store, Deb's Gifts.

Creek Run by Jill Peckelun

Creek Run, oil en plein air, 14 x 11"
Well, let me tell you- these wooded scenes are a challenge.  This was painted during the last week of Autumn when I was looking around for something to see and couldn't take my eyes off the white of the water, the copper of fallen leaves and the cool neutrals of tree bark.  There is something so compellingly beautiful about seeing water and trees just doing their water and tree thing.  There was a steep bank just behind the trees and I knew that that little creek of water had been working away there for a very long time to get the ravine down to its current level.  And all it had to do was simply be itself.

Poinsettia, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

I had my students try acrylic instead of watercolor for our poinsettia class.
It was fun to try something new, twist our minds a little with a different way of painting.
This was my demonstration... 8x10 canvas board.

by Claire Beadon Carnell

'The Stone Wall'
Oil on Panel
8 x 16
SOLD

I always like to be part of a surprise, and this commission
was for the man who built the curved stone wall in this
painting.  I haven't posted any pictures until I was
absolutely sure that he had received the artwork.  It
was also so very nice to learn today from Art & Soul Gallery
that he loves his gift!
Successful surprise all-around.

Below is a picture of my photo reference.  I used it for the
objects, but tried to give the painting a sense of light and life.

On January 11-12 2013, I will be conducting
a two-day workshop on 'Painting from Photographs'.

CROCKS WITH WOOL BLANKET, oil, 16x20 by Sharon Benner

A studio, still life painted to practice painting earth colored pottery and the wool texture of the blanket.   I learned a lot about layering rich colors in the dark areas of the large crock.  I'm not sure I learned anything about painting wool fabric but it was fun.  I don't plan on framing or showing this painting, but I'll keep it for future reference.

"December Downtown" by Michael LeKites

I still have some more to do on this but it will be my last post. I'll set it aside for awhile and finish it over the next few weeks. Acrylic on canvas, 12x16.

Striations, 16 x 12" oil en plein air by Jill Peckelun

It was early December when I painted this- very cold, but still with some color on the far trees and in the grasses.  I was attracted to the striations in the grasses, made by the wheels of farm equipment and how it played with the rows of clouds in the sky.  It made for a rock 'em, sock 'em kind of moment for me.

www.jillpeckelun.com

Outcropping, 8 x 10, oil, by Ron Donoughe

The forest is very austere this time of year. (I'm patiently waiting for a beautiful white blanket to appear.) These rock ledges caught my attention while on a hike last week. They are quite beautiful once you stop to observe them. Painting on location gives me an opportunity to enjoy the free gifts nature offers.

Trio Trouble Musical Motif Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Trio Trouble
original musical motif watercolor w/horn, trumpet, trombone: 11" x 14"

the task of the horn
is to cast off all scorn
and proudly display
his technical ways
like a peacock, he struts
all his finery stuff
and if that’s not enough
he’ll wail in disgust
his penchant for flair
o’ershadows the pair
of brass partners there
but he doesn’t care
