I spent 4 hours just laying in color on the rails and supports for this jump commission. It was very tedious work, to say the least. ...and to think photo realism was how I started out painting with watercolor! In the original photo, the rail nearest the horse was not visible due to the photographer's position at the jump. I was asked to put a rail in there and only did so with just a bit of a suggestion of one.
The jump will probably get more done to it but not until I get the horse and rider a little farther along. So I am stopping for today; I can't do another brush stroke.
I need some "good ol', plein air" to recover.

Thank you Kathy. I attempted to paint last night on a scrap piece of WC paper the colors of the sorrel horse and make my swatch page. I got close to finding the right combinations; but it got too late to get into anything more than that. This one will be a slow-going process.
