I enjoy teaching, doing demos for my students and working on commissions, but sometimes I have paintings in my head that just need to get out. I miss painting just to paint. So this evening I spent some time at the studio working on this portrait of my son, Nick.
Not done yet. Still working on values, color tweaking and deciding how loose to keep the bottom portion of the painting... It feels good so far.

I like the whole feeling of the painting - everything. This is exceptional, Maria.
It looks so fabulous!!
Great post Maria!
Yeah, I agree. Nice work even in the unfinished phase.
I agree with Ron, I like this piece just as you have posted it. The most important part is the face and you have done a great job.
Thanks for all the comments. I have done/overdone many paintings where the bottom is loose and I just have to get in and "finish" it. And in the process I lose the energy and interest... I stopped this one in time I think. I'll just tweak a few areas and call it done. I will repost here to show the difference.
