GETTYSBURG FESTIVAL 2010
ARTIST COLONY
Paintings from the Artist Colony Experience
by Claire Beadon Carnell

I can not even begin to describe the incredible experience
of being a participant at the first Gettysburg Festival Artist Colony
last week.
How amazing to be able to completely dedicate three whole days
to my craft, study with Master Painter Lisa Egeli, explore
Gettysburg looking for the perfect painting spot - and then
be treated to gourmet meals and air conditioned buses
that transported us to and from our painting events.
A dream come true, and many thanks to everyone associated
with the Gettysburg Festival who made all of this possible.

Here are two of the plein air paintings that I painted during
the Artist Colony.

'Morning's Light'
(View from Little Roundtop)
Oil 9 x 12
Linen on Panel

'Summer on the Trostle Farm'
Oil 9 x 12
Linen on Panel

Claire--There is something spiritual about both of these paintings-perhaps their locale had something to do with it, but most likely it has more to do with the artist, your talent and your feeling for your whole experience at Gettysburg.

I agree w/Cecelia...these are both so sensitively composed and painted..they evoke a sense of quiet resolve..

Cecelia and Bertie, I am very touched that you sensed what I feel when I paint - thank you.

I especially like the Morning Light... the lonely tree and marker... nestled in the perfect place. I also like your color choices... what a wonderful opportunity to have the time to paint for three days...

These paintings are beautiful. Your colors and technique on each of these are perfect. It sounds like you had a great time creating them.

Claire - all of your work at the festival was first class. Bravo!!

The tree painting is very well done. Green can be the most difficult color and you handled with subtle changes. Nice feeling in this.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. The whole artist colony experience was phenomenal, and will be something I take with me and my work as I move forward.
