I posted this painting yesterday and then noticed some areas that needed "correction". You know, it's always jarring and a disappointment when I miss obvious mistakes in a painting. But as I have said before, painting is a struggle[for me, anyway]. There still are some things that are shaky[ oh, those verticals!], but I'm ready to begin another painting.
This is an old general store in Boone, North Carolina. It is still in service for the local population, but because of its "retro" charm is also a tourist attraction. I was attracted to all of that as well, especially the Esso sign, which reminded me of the painting, "GAS", by my favorite artist, Ed Hopper. Of course Mobile gas, with its winged red horse was still around in 1940. Also, the sight of a wind-blown American flag against a bright blue sunny sky always inspires me.
