View of Harrisburg by Mary Beth Brath

View of Harrisburg from New Cumberland Boat Club
by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Mary Beth Brath
Acrylic on Canvas, 11x14", Satin Varnish
$190
This painting of our state capital was started on site (plein air). The day was actually very rainy and nasty. I blocked in the composition quickly and had to leave. I came back on a lovely warm day and took some photos. The painting was finished in my studio. I really enjoy painting along the Susquehanna River.

My favorite! I love this view you have captured. You have made Harrisburg feel like a city in Europe.

Beautifully painted, Mary Beth. I especially like how you have captured the light and atmosphere. One of my favorites of yours.

This painting reminds me of Thomas Eakins' e painting of skulling on the Schuykill River--a different view of Harrisburg-love it.

Thank you for the wonderful comments. I have been watching the blog today while working on another painting of the Daylily Farm in New Cumberland. I have a large solo show at the Charley Krone Gallery in the New Cumberland library in March. The painting shown above and the Daylily Farm painting will be among the 30 paintings in the exhibit.

Very nice, Mary Beth!
I'm not sure I know location where you painted, but sure looks good!
I also like "be back, snap some photos" approach. :-)

Mary Beth, I, too, think this is my favorite painting of yours. I love the perspective and the city line. Very unique viewpoint.

This is really beautifully done, Mary Beth. I almost get the feeling of "sneaking up" on the city from some tranquil spot. Great work!
