'Castle Urquhart on Loch Ness' by Thom Glace

Transparent Watercolor on 300 lb. rough Arches paper.
Image Size: 9" x 4.5". Matted Size: 14" x 11".
From a personal Photograph.

After seeing the Blog Entry by Jack Bingham the other day of his beautiful 'Green Acre Sunset', I thought of this painting I had done a few months ago. I enjoy the liberal use of color at times to get special feel and effect. I enjoyed painting this favorite scene of mine, and forced myself not to put a 'Nessie' in the Loch. The scenic view stands by itself.

Love your interpretation of this scene--to me, it is very expressionistic--dark, brooding shadows--strong orange and red contrasts with the blue sky--Are you sure there is no Loch Ness monster in that water?

Something different this time, Thom!
For some reason this one looks like a miniature painting to me, but... it makes no difference what size it is. I like it a lot, especially what you have done with this sky.

The scenic view does indeed stand by itself. This is such a pretty painting, gorgeous use of colors, even the "silver" lake that I see!
