Late Winter at Wildwood Lake by Lyn O'Neal

Late Winter at Wildwood Lake

Oil on panel

11 x 14 inches

I'm a little slow in posting this piece. We painted en plein air at Wildwood Lake in late Winter this year. I loved the soft, subtle palette of grays in this scene. We paint at this location often because it changes so dramatically from season to season. I love to capture the natural wetlands and the light/color shifts throughout the year.

Flooded Trunks, 9 x 12, oil, by Ron Donoughe

Rain, rain go away. The excess water in the rivers has caused a lot of this, flooded trunks. These reflections appeared to move with the viewer. Very strange. The same phenomenon seems to happen with eyes on some museum portraits. The general rule with reflection is that dark values reflect lighter, lights reflect darker and middle tones reflect about the same.

This is one of the 60 newly posted paintings on my web site.

Buses, 9 x 12, oil on panel, by Ron Donoughe

These two buses are in a junk yard that I drive by almost everyday. They are tucked into the forest directly across from where I stop. As traffic whizzes by I find myself staring at these shapes, thinking about the thousands of hours spent on buses like this as a child. Yet I'm also intrigued by the bold, intense yellow against a field of non-color. The contrast and abstract shapes bring thoughts of Mark Rothko.  It has taken me four years of observation to make this painting–in 90 minutes.

Railroad Cutaway, 12 x 12, by Ron Donoughe

Sometimes I get excited to make a painting after just completing one, which is what happened here. By then I feel more like responding to the landscape rather than copying it. In addition, my mass colors are already mixed on my palette. I'm safely parked, and there it is right in front of me, the next potential painting. Why didn't I see this before? These efforts tend to be quite good or losers that get scraped off. This one was a keeper.

"Summer Poppies", WIP by Tatiana Myers.

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Holbein DUO Oil on Ampersand  board.

My latest work in progress what I'm trying to keep simple and easy going. Just another mess of poppies.
I'm not sure: why I did so many poppy paintings this summer. Perhaps I just feel this way. This work is done in "free style" with very minimum drawing and with only one (and no so little!) brush. I may add some Oil Pastel for very final touch and make it "mixed media". Or not.  So far I'm just taking it easy and enjoying the process.

Pathway at Two Mile House, oil, 9 x 12, Lyn O'Neal

This was the little scene that captured my attention at the Two Mile House on Monday when several of us painted en plein air. I was attempting to capture light without the sky in the scene. I also liked all the linear aspects. I tried to keep it simple and within 3 hours.

Liverpool Morning by Lyn O'Neal

Liverpool Morning
oil on board
6 x 8 inches
Oh what a beautiful morning! Yesterday we met along 11/15 in Liverpool. It was a breezy summer morning - much cooler than it's been - and a perfect day to be outside at the easel. The silvery hills, sky and waters of this scene were so appealing in the hazy summer atmosphere. I think everyone was inspired by this scene.
