Musically SUPERIOR Instrumental Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Musically SUPERIOR

original musical instrument watercolor with shells/feathers: 15" x 18"

the task of the horn

is to cast off all scorn

and proudly display

his technical ways

like a peacock, he struts

all his finery stuff

and if that’s not enough

he’ll wail in disgust

his penchant for flair

and the star he won’t share

says he’s come a great way

from his conch shell-y brays!

original musical instrument watercolor with horn, violin: 15" x 15"

the task of the horn

is to cast off all scorn

and proudly display

his technical ways

like a peacock, he struts

all his finery stuff

and if that’s not enough

 he departs in a huff

his penchant for flair

and the star he won’t share

reminds me of one

who should be expunged!

Baubles and Bells Musical Instrument Watercolor by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Baubles and Bells

original musical instrument watercolor w/horn: 17"x 17"

for prints click: BertieSmugmug

back in the day

I remember we played

with marbles and jacks

and baseballs and bats

but sometimes I recall

though I tried hard to stall

I had to apply

my  lip

to the tip

of my tarnished old horn

and try not to sound

too bad or forlorn

much later I found

practice, patience plus time

would greatly improve

my horn teacher’s mood!

Theory of Relativity Instrumental Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Theory of Relativity

original instrumental watercolor w/trumpet, horn, trombone, shells: 22" x 22"

Sophie says, gee

what could these be

horns of brass, three

and shells from the sea

I wonder if these

by someone’s theory

are relatively

related...could be

‘cause I’ve heard, you see

long tones played with ease

on whelk and conch shells

by my own BB!

so here’s what I think

those brass instruments

were invented right quick

‘cause a Mozart soloist

needed less sand, more lip

Top Sax Musical Instrument Watercolor by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Top Sax

original musical instrument watercolor w/sax, trombone, trumpet, drums, piano: 15" x 17"

Sophie and I

are kinda confused

as we wonder why

that sax in the sky

thinks he is the best

above all the rest

atop that drumset

we think he’s inept

at sharing the tunes

with those other dudes

who righteously spew

the harmonies they knew

would work with the sax

‘cause it’s just a fact

they don’t want a “spat”

with a sax that’s a brat!

Round and Round Still Life Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Round and Round

original watercolor still life w/baubles, glasses, vase, instruments: 15' x 15"

it’s relative-ly

a new work, you see

with something that’s old

a shape big and bold

and some that are new

with int’resting hues

borrowed from yet

a past series set

hmmm...

it’s deja vu

for those orange and blues!

Musically Correct Instrumental Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Instrumentally Correct

original instrumental watercolor w/horn, trombone, trumpet, piano, violin: 15" x 16"

way back in the day

when Sophie was a babe

I imagined that we

would be best friends indeed

she’d be 2, maybe 3

and I‘d be...well, older, you see

I pictured us this way

on an ordinary day:

painting trumpets

horns and ‘bones

with bright colors

hues and tones

wearing paint stained artsy shirts

laughing as we did our work

while my poems said all that

Sophie grew and that’s a fact

now we really paint and draw

thats what we like most of all

and we def’nitely agree

BFFs, we’ll always be!

Reed Envy Musical Instrument Watercolor by Daily Painter Bertie Brown

Reed Envy

original musical instrument watercolor with/horn, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, flute

7" x 11"

Quints Jam

The woodwind Quintet

Is surprised and upset

That a brass French Horn-et

Is allowed on their set

But the French Horn explained

While the Woodwinds complained

That his rich rounded sound

Keeps the Woodwinds anchored down

So they changed all their plans

And that’s how it began

For the “Woodwind Quints Jam”!
