"SOMETIMES, I WISH I WERE A REAL BOY" An Original Pastel Painting by Clare Klaum

This painting was a commissioned pet portrait with such a story to tell.  A good friend of mine had it done as a gift for her sister. She requested that it be done in black and white.  Her sister's dog, Johnston, a West Highland Terrier (who is no longer on this earth) always sat in his favorite spot by the window.  He is watching her two daughters play in the snow.  This historic house was built in the 1700s.  The stone structure outside, at the top of the painting, was also built in the 1700s and was at one time a wheat mill that was converted into a restaurant and was run by her sister and her husband.  My friends sister wrote on the back of the photo "Sometimes, I wish I were a real boy" which is what she thought Johnston was thinking. It was such a joy to paint this piece of family history!
