Good for You, Cecelia! It look to me that many didn't and only considered the place as nice picnic area or something of this kind. It is too bad that parents do not care to teach their kids to respect their history. It never ending well, when history is forgotten.

Tatiana-I was reluctant to share my feelings with any artist painting at Gettysburg, but I find it difficult to paint where so many men had died.

I totally understand You, Cecelia. It is a bit easier for me. Our Russian history keeps memory of many wars - Napoleon, Hitler etc.. It used to be in our culture to raise kids with that memory... and respect to our past (from what I understand it changed a lot during last several years and kids in Russia care about their history not more that kids here, in America this days)... Plus of course personal experience... I lost too many friends and family members to learn how to deal with dead people... Working as a nurse contributed too. I have a lot of deep feeling to places like this, but I'm not overwhelmed to the point that I can not work there... I will not be picnicking there with my kids that is for sure, but that is exactly because of "respect".
