Fishing at the Bay, Watercolor by Linda Young

copyright L R Young

The fishing house on the bay. 12 x 16" watercolor, LRYoung

When I finished painting this and showed my husband he said "I want to live there".  It really could be a nice summer home for us. A little rustic, though.

After drawing the basic large shapes,  I didn't want to refer the original for ideas; but allow myself to dream of the events taking place.  I placed the fisherman in the boat and fisherman's wife moving back toward the house.  Was she going for something he had forgotten to take along with him or was he just waving goodbye?  A fencerow draws the viewer into the scene and the sandy area beside the fence gives a place to rest.  If you look at the window on the house, there's an impression of someone standing in the shadows.

This looks like an illustration to go with a favorite story - one you would always remember and retell. It's so beautiful!
