END OF THE DAY By Cecelia Lyden

It was about 5 PM when I spied these two beach chairs and towels from our balcony. The beach was almost empty; people had left for the day. The sun was lowering in the sky, casting a long shadow of the adjacent condo across the sand and over the water. The sunshine was still bright, creating great contrast with the shadows on the sand, beach, grasses, water and waves. I photographed this site and started the painting from the photo. I was able to continue most of the painting in plein air [minus the chairs] by waiting till 5 PM for several evenings. The sunlight, the cast shadows, the beach and grasses never changed and the waves just kept rolling in.
