UNDER THE ROSE ARBOR
An Original Plein Air Oil Painting

I found this beautiful Rose Arbor on
St. John's Alley in Camp Hill while painting
in the Camp Hill Plein Air Event.  Everything about
the scene appealed to me except one
thing - there were no blooms, only rosebuds.
I really wanted to add the roses, and was so
glad when the owner came out to see what
I was painting and I was able to ask her
what color the roses were when they were
in flower!  That's one of the advantages
of being an artist, you can paint in the roses
even before they have bloomed.

Your buds are delicate and sweet! I'm glad you did that. I would have fretted over what those lillies underneath would have been doing when the roses were in bloom. I appreciate, and find inspiring, your spirit of inventiveness!

Dianne, I also thought about the Day Lilies, but didn't want to draw attention to them - wanted the roses to be more important.
