A Storm is Coming by Dianne Lorden

Finished a couple of days ago - I had posted a detail earlier in the month. I'd prepared this painting in my youth, but never got to paint it (except for some background and preliminary washes) and have been carrying the now-old canvas around through several moves. Re-visiting it to create the painting was interesting: I haven't worked in oils in years, so really had to get a feeling for that again; tried recalling what was on my mind when I came up with this composition (the title is literal and figurative, referring to many parts of the narrative); and had to re-work a great deal of the original plan because I'd included many personal items that I no longer own. What a trip! So glad to have finished it though - for better or worse - because I feel like a really addressed a big loose end from my artistic life. And my husband always wanted to see the finished product. He's pleased. I included a close-up because the painting's pretty big (30"x50"-ish) and didn't know how the post would appear.

This is quite an undertaking, and I am so glad that you finished it, Dianne. It's complex and interesting, and leaves much room for the viewer to explore and create all kinds of stories in their imagination. I have come back to look at this several times - and enjoyed every visit!

Diane-I ditto the above comments-its Latino subject and color palette are so intriguing--it has to win a prize in some art competition-somewhere.
