An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Made to Last'
Oil on Stretched Canvas
20 x 24

When I was only married a couple of years, my
mother handed me an old shoe box that had
the words 'Family Jewels' written on the lid.
When I opened it, I was quite surprised to find
some beautiful antique hand tools.

For years I thought about painting them, and
when one of my students offered to bring in some
more antique tools, this still life became a reality.
(Thank you Fred Baldwin!)

The amazing thing is that none of these tools
require electricity, and yet they still work as well
as they did the day they were made.
Most of these tools are at least one hundred
years old.  Hope I am working that good when
I'm that age!

You are so right about these lasting forever whereas the power tools constantly break. Wonderful detail and I love the table color reflected in the anvil.

This doesn't look like a painting that was easy to do, Claire. Well done!
