Vivi's Wheels by Julie Riker

I took a break from the commission today.  My friend Vivian was so nice to invite me to paint around her lovely farm.  There were many beautiful subjects around the nursery and pond, but I've lately been looking for different things to paint that will challenge me....not necessarily to make a sellable painting, but to hone my skills.

I decided to paint her car.  It's so classic, so cute, so colorful...so very Vivi!

Julie, this is terrific! I can tell You - this is perhaps my very favorite of all Your paintings... Whatever You did made it irresistible. Bravo!

Thanks Tatiana and Cecelia. I guess what I did differently was to not try to find the beautiful (postcard) landscape scene that I think someone might purchase for their wall. I just saw something I liked, knew the drawing would be a challenge, and went for it. Working small (5x7) made it less intimidating and something I knew I could toss if it didn't work out.
Turns out someone did buy it! ;)

Love the work and look of this car and I bet the buyer does too ;) Wish I could have been there.
