Falling Leaves brings bare trees, Watercolor by Linda Young

Fall at Fuller Lake, by Linda Young
5 x 7" watercolor on Ampersand smooth surface Aquabord

The second most favorite time of the year for me is Autumn and the scene at Fuller Lake is an addition to the grouping of fall paintings I am working on.  I almost hate to paint the fall colors because I know the cold of winter is soon to follow.   (A happy thought today--Spring is 5 months away!)

I took on a challenge with this one, however; I painted this on Ampersand's Aquabord that has a smooth white clay surface.  Having never painted on this surface, I didn't know what to expect of it.  I read that it could be scratched somewhat for textures and wasn't forgiving if you tried to manipulate color--It reacts much like hot pressed paper.  The claybord puddled and pooled in unexpected areas, the end result was a very loose, painterly look.

I will be painting and experimenting more with the Aquabord and hopefully grow to like it better.  As for now, the verdict is still out.  One of the benefits of painting with the claybord is:  The painting can be sealed which makes it unnecessary to put the work under glass.

I really like the painterly look of this, Linda. Always nice to try something new and see how it challenges us!
