Untitled study by Michael LeKites

This is just a study. An exercise in technique, not creativity. I'm using a stock photo here that I found on WetCanvas. ( No intention of making a habit of using stock photos, but I lack models.. it is so frustrating!) Anyway, I am working larger and am going for some stronger detail... looking for something a little more difficult. I think I am around 12 hours so far. Using graphite pencil, mechanical pencil, various artist pencils, pastel and acrylic white. My goal is some photo realism with this, that is why I am working on a slightly larger scale. Approx. 12x17 when finished.

What a beauty, so reminiscent of the glory days in Hollywood!

Hi Michael - my first 2 confection paintings came from stock photos, then I read that I can use them for study, but can not profit off of it. The site I used made it sound like the photos were free and clear, but when I read the fine print much more closely, I found the clause. I now have the 2 paintings hanging in my kitchen with a note on the back. Great post by the way and what an awesome study!
