Longwood Garden's Orchids by Tatiana Myers. Work in Progress.

14 x 11" on Museum Panel.

This is a preparation stages for another floral Oil Pastel. I'm not going to describe all details, but to keep it simple all you can see right now will not be visible, when my work will be over... It is only mean to be an underpainting.
I'm working on another ampersand museum sanded panel with watercolor pencils and wash. The reason of turning pencils into wash - Oil Pastel goes much better over watercolor and doesn't have tendency to crumble as much, what is essential for successful painting. At the last photo you see finished underpainting and it is ready for Oil Pastels... any time now!

SPRING BEGINS ALONG THE FLORIDA PIKE BY Cecelia Lyden

oil on stretched canvas

In late February, signs of spring were popping up along stretches of the Florida Turnpike. Some roadside shrubs and trees were sporting bright green foliage. This looked so enticing. especially in contrast with the fields, which appear orange in the bright sunlight. Of course, puffy clouds get me everytime.

"Ibizan Hound Puppy" Watercolor by Charlotte Yealey

11 x 11
Watercolor
I have been working with water mediums the last few days. I love watercolors but I am never satisfied with the background when I paint them so I airbrushed this background. This ibizan puppy belongs to a friend of mine and loves when I use her hounds as models.

Enchanted Evening by Deborah Nell

Enchanted Evening 16"x10" Water media on Yupo paper

I enjoy painting on Yupo paper because I can get such interesting textures combinations of color. This painting kind of painted itself. They express the fun I had when I painted this.

Moving Steel, 36 x 36, oil on canvas, by Ron Donoughe

A few years ago I visited five different steel mills in the Western Pennsylvania region. From those visits I've been doing a series of industrial paintings. In a way it is to document an important aspect of this region's history before it is gone. This mill makes couplers for the railroad industry and it is just a few blocks from my studio.

"Pot o' Daffs" by Dianne Lorden

I got a sampler pack of Ampersand pastelbord in 5x7 boards. So, this was my first painting, which I did yesterday afternoon. I love this board, and I also really appreciate the small size. It's a pleasure - as well as a relief - to do something in an afternoon! I need to do more of that! I'm slowly working on my re-vamped website. Visit it here: South Mountain Sketchbook

Hacker Alert!

My facebook account was compromised as well as my email account, including ALL my addresses and inbox messages.

Last night, I forgot to log out of facebook and that's how they got in; the hacker was from Hong Kong.
Here is my suggestion to you:  if you have not done so already, be sure your email password and facebook passwords are different.  Mine were exactly the same (oh trusting me) and that is how they accessed my accounts.

I'm sorry some of you received an email stating I was stranded in the London airport and got mugged.  None of that is true.

I hope you never have to go through what I am experiencing today; it's been a challenge to reset all passwords.  You never know how many places you've got a password at-- until this happens.

Transformation/Liberation by Amy Lindenberger

On February 1 of this year I posted a mixed media piece entitled Departure, the first in a small series about Sarah Emma Edmonds. (For the complete background about this woman, please visit the group of works designated Beyond the Battlefield on my website, http://www.civilwarfineart.com/, and click on The Sarah Emma Edmond series.) Today's post is of the finished version of my second in that series, and it is another symbolic piece that relates to the period from Emma's childhood, dominated by a father who clearly resented the fact that she had been born female rather than male, to the time when she fled that unhappy existence and worked on developing her male persona, hiding in the woods by day and travelling only under cover of darkness until she felt confident in her new role.

This piece has a lot of symbolism, both in terms of imagery and in terms of color, so you probably won't get a good look at it unless you enlarge it. (If you're interested in viewing the stages of its development, please visit my blog at http://amylindenberger.blogspot.com/ beginning with my first post in November 2010.) As is so often the case when I finish a long-term project, at the moment I really can't say how I feel about it -- one time I look at it, I'm very happy with it; the next time I look at it I have many, many doubts and misgivings. It will take some time, I'm sure, for me to see this one somewhat objectively.

Three Leeks by Taryn Day

oil on board
6.5"x 6"

I like finishing my paintings in one day, even if it takes me 8 or 9 hours, because then I am not as likely to get bogged down in worries and over thinking. These leeks just gave me too much to do for a one day piece, so this morning when I went back to them I tried my hardest to keep it feeling fresh. REDBUDS ALONG THE BATTLEFIELD
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Redbuds Along the Battlefield'
Oil  9 x 12

Last Spring we took a road trip to the Gettysburg Battlefield
and I was able to get some nice photographs of the redbuds
and dogwoods blooming.  This particular view is from
Ayers Avenue along the Auto Tour.  I loved the way the
light was streaming through the trees, catching the
colors of the redbuds and creating beautiful diagonal
 shadows in the foreground.

MOUNTAIN LAUREL ON THE RIDGE
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Mountain Laurel on the Ridge'
Oil  18 x 14

On the mountain by our cabin, mountain laurel grows
heavily in certain areas, and I am always so awed
by the amazing range of colors in these beautiful wild
flowers.  Along the ridge where they are most prevalent, I have
seen the colors range from a deep rosy pink to the palest
pink blush.

I especially liked the way the light was shining through
this particular section of mountain laurel, and really
worked to get what I wanted.  What do you think?

This is one of the lovely ladies that
reside in Custer State Park, Sd.
An amazing place thanks to Mr. Norbeck for preserving it for us.
In Custer there is a band of wild burros at the south end of the park.
I first visited the park in 89' and have been back four times since. They have a wild life loop full of goodies and some rock formations that will amaze.

ALONG ALLIGATOR ALLEY By Cecelia Lyden

oil on canvas board

6x8

Until this absurdly cold spring weather warms up, I have to content myself painting from photos. I took this one, on the fly, from my car window, as we were travelling from Naples to the Miami area on Alligator Alley. Next year, we are going to stop and visit The Everglades. I doubt that I will be painting plein air there--don't need those alligators knocking over my easel. But, I'm looking forward to witnessing The Glades up close and taking some nice photos--to paint from when I return to PA in March, while I sit out another unhospitable, cold, spring.

"Catch of the Day" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

"Catch of the Day" Watercolor 15"x22" on 250lb paper

This is a little something different and a little humorous. I saw this woman fishing and just knew it was going to be a painting. I was born in Minnesota so I have this secret love of fishing. I just loved all the pink and the manicured painted nails. Not what you usually see when watching people fish! I worked to make the colors and composition come together in harmony. Hope you enjoy!

To contact me about the purchase of this painting or see more of my work go to www.debkreiger.com or follow my blog at debkreiger.blogspot.com or you can shop in my new store, Deb's Gifts

Newly completed colored pencil by Dianne Lorden

This is a newly completed colored pencil drawing for a client. It's been some time since I covered the paper so fully using pencil, but I wanted to give a more painting-like result than my usual illustration style with colored pencil. The components are of spiritual significance, so I am not naming any of them here. View my work at South Mountain Sketchbook

"Orchids in the Ruby Bowl" WIP, Oil by Tatiana Myers.

"Orchids in the Ruby Bowl"
12 x 12" Oil on Museum Panel.

This is my second version of "Ruby Bowl" what I started right after I started my pastel version of it.
Do not take me wrong, I love to work with pastels, but framing and showing paintings under the glass sometimes is a big problem. Because I have  very limited experience with Oils, I decided to treat this work just the same way I do many works in pastel and started from black in white underpainting.
After it dries, I'll be able to convert it to color with few layers of accurate glazing.
If everything will work out how I planned, I will get my first show painting
what I doesn't need to be put under the glass. I love to try new things and BTW, this Ampersand Gessobord is just as perfect as other products of Ampersand I tried before. Total pleasure to work on.
I will need one more session in Black and White before I can start tinting it up.

CATTLE RANCH ON FLORIDA TURNPIKE By Cecelia Lyden

oil on stretched canvas
16x20
Driving back and forth from Fort Pierce to Gainesville on the Florida Turnpike, I saw some beautiful scenery. We were rushing to catch our granddaughter's lacrosse 1:00 game at the University of Florida, so there was no stopping. I started snapping photos as my husband flew by one potential painting after the other. Amazingly, most of them came out just fine. I plan to do a couple more.

Art Show With Friend - Debi Watson

This is a watercolor painting, Fireman's Locker, from my local fire company. It will be showing, along with 11 other of my original watercolors and many of my friends, Don Whitesels, at Bube's Brewery in Mt Joy, PA through May 2.
This painting was lost for almost a year, hidden between two pieces of cardboard. When my basement flooded, I found it. Sometimes disaster is a blessing in disguise!

"Golden Puppy" Watercolor by Charlotte Yealey

8.5x11
Watercolor
Spring has sprung and of course, I am thinking puppies. This painting was done with the idea of a spring card design to add to my collection of seasonal cards. I remember this little guy trotting across my back yard following his young owner where ever she went as if he was trained to do so.
I just love puppies.

"Got Shrimp?" Watercolor by Kathy Michels

After doing several large, major compositions I decided to take a break the last couple of days and experiment. I normally use cold press for all my watercolors but decided to use hot press and work on a looser background. This one is still in progress as I am detailing and smoothing the back and neck. It has been fun. I took this photo in Florida a couple of years ago at the Silver Springs attraction. They have a little bridge that is right above these guys where you can get some wonderful angles.

Is it Summer Yet??? by Christine Marx

I just had to post this seashell summer-type painting, in hopes that the weather gods will see it and take pity on us here in Pennsylvania and send some springtime our way! I could not believe I woke up to yet another blanket of snow! Now, there are some painters who LOVE winter time, and love painting winter scenes and I can truly appreciate that. I am a transplant from California who thought the coldest weather here was last winter. Hmmmm. I think this winter seemed to last a little longer, and it doesn't seem to be done yet.

So here is a little touch of summer for you all, to hold you over to the beautiful springtime and summer that will be here soon.
