A rose among thorns by Linda Young

"A rose among thorns"
4-1/2" x 6"
Linda Young Watercolors

Originally, this was a paint a draw together blog photo that was posted a month or so ago; but I didn't have time to work on it then.  Putting the photo away, the image of it stayed in my mind and nagged at me to get busy and paint it.   Amid the thorns of everyday life the original rose grew just for us; this was recreated without a photo or reference in front of me.

I am really glad you finished this, Linda. It is one of my favorites of all of the rose entries in the Paint and Draw challenge!

Beautiful! and without a photo reference!

Really nice. You must have a great memory because that is well done.

My memory comes and goes, Ron, and if you see the original photo, it's not really like it. I really had a hard time remembering the rose center and also to figure out what a water droplet looked like. I flipped water from my brush onto the plexiglass table top to help figure it out. So, maybe that would be cheating a little with that sort of reference?

I must add though, the drawing came from the photo I just meant I didn't use it to paint by. Sorry to miss-stating a key element; this memory of mine isn't that good.

I love what you did with this challenge photo. The washy, soft focused background adds a lot of depth.
