Lost Lake Colorado by Linda Young

Lost Lake Colorado
4-1/2" x 6-1/2"
Watercolor by Linda Young
Central Pennsylvania Artist
Lost Lake
Gunnison National Forest, Colorado.
Elevation 9600 ft

In a serene and beautiful setting, Lost Lake sits amid the lush pines of the Gunnison National Forest and is situated between the Ragged Mountain and the West Elk Wilderness. Many deer, elk, beaver and bear make their homes here. There is also great fishing for cutthroat trout and “Native Brown’s” for the avid fisherman.

When I was last here, the only way into the Lost Lake was by horseback, so you had to carry all your gear with you on pack mule or if the load was small—in your saddle bags. I imagine after all these years, someone has cut a road in to make it more accessible. I can only hope it’s still hard to get to; in the Winter, it is totally unaccessible.

Unfortunately, all the photographs of my days in Colorado have been lost as the lake's name describes; only faded memories serve me now.  I’d love to go back to experience the beauty of Lost Lake again; maybe I'll do just that.

Claire, here's a link to read a little bit about it from someone who "camped" there.

mmm...purple. My eye keeps exploring the scene and the composition captures my attention. Amazing that this is only 4x6".

This is wonderful Linda. I love the story and the feel of the painting comes from your heart for sure. Definitely a place I'd like to visit!

I love an artist who can capture the feeling of a scene with such looseness! Beautiful!

I didn't check this post for several days and I want to thank you for your kind words. I'm beginning to learn it is better for me emotionally to paint something without a photo; thank you for expressing yours.
