Work in Progress by Michael LeKites

One of my many works in progress. A painting of our children.
This is oil on acrylic. I am starting a semi transition to oils in several of my paintings. I work as far as I can with the acrylics, then I begin applying oils over the acrylics in certain parts of the painting. So, in other words, I am completing sections with acrylics then finishing lightly with oils. Untitled as of yet. Still a great many hours to go before being completed. 23x32.

One of my most successful paintings was started in acrylic and completed in oils--I was able to get the shape and values in first, made quick adjustments wiht the acrylics and then put the main coloring in with the oils--think I'll try that again--An ambitious project-painting 3 children. Their poses are natural and relaxed, requiring lots of forshortening and facial expressions. The expression of the "Dude" with the sunglasses says it all. I love the contrast of the figures on the black and white striped blanket.

The most amazing thing about this painting is that you were able to keep your children's attention long enough to paint. I love the natural positioning and the capturing of the facial expressions you have caught in this piece!
