THE ROUND BARN
by Claire Beadon Carnell
Day 01 Painting
Gettysburg Festival Plein Air Paint Out

'The Round Barn'
Oil on linen panel
9 x 12
Here is my painting from the first day of the
Gettysburg Festival Plein Air Paint Out.
The Round Barn is a rare and historical round
barn located in Biglerville, PA (just outside of
Gettysburg). Every vantage point of this
incredible barn is terrific, but when I walked
around to see where I would want to paint, this
is the view that really grabbed me.
I thought it really showed off some of the
unusual architecture that makes this barn
so unique.

Great rendering of geometric shapes and volume.

Claire, this is very well done - all the eaves, trim and shutters are painted with such a confident touch. From the curved lines of the windows and roof to the stonework and lay of the land - it's a plein air success! I can't wait to see this in person.

Thanks Cecelia and Lyn. This was a real challenge with all of the different angles and shapes.

What a successful rendering of a building that is not traditional in its shape. I've never been there but I'm sure I would recognize it if I saw it.

I like the arrangement a lot. You made good use of the geometry and proportions.
