Redo in Watercolor, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

I redid this image in watercolor about 10x14 inches.
I felt I wasn't getting it in acrylic so I tried again in watercolor.
I am happier with the results (back to my usual colors) and I think the expressions work better.
I think I was trying to do too much with the smaller size of the acrylic.
Anyway, it is good to learn and keep growing.
Oh and just want to say that my much of my inspiration comes from vintage photos of immigrants, hard workers and rugged lives.
They do not always make "pretty pictures" but I think it is important to show their strength.

Maria, I would have guessed this one was the acrylic and your first one was the watercolor. This one definitely has more punch. It does definitely show their strength. Great paintings.

Maria...this is simply magnificent. I find these paintings you are doing from the old photographs so compelling. I've always loved going through old photographs from my own family, and wondering who these people were, what were their lives like... I get that same feeling when I look at these paintings of yours - I want to know their story.

Maria, this is absolutely fabulous. Gorgeous sense of familial history, and of the "old country." I love this!

Thank you. You comments keep me motivated to keep digging in old closets, trunks and resale shops for more inspiration. I know there are many stories to keep telling.
