'Study of a Nassau Grouper' by Thom Glace

Transparent Watercolor on Crescent Mat Board.

This is the first in a new series of Eastern Game Fish. My major series is of Freshwater Fish of the Susquehanna River Watershed. Having lived in the Caribbean for 5 years , I am especially fond of the beautiful fish found there. I am now working on a commission for a Gag Grouper (Most common Grouper on a seafood menu- somehow they elect to now call it a 'Gag' Grouper, just grouper. This is my favorite grouper due to its markings. I do have to admit using a little Chinese white on this painting. It was 99% finished and I made a slight error.

Great piece. I really like the small nip in his tail.

A little Chinese white? Whatever it takes. This is a beauty.

I spotted that bit of Chinese white right away...just kidding, of course. This is exceptional.
