Hydrangeas and Daylillies by Cecelia Lyden

I grew up in a four family house, in Tarrytown, NY, where everyone was related. It was built my grandfather, who was an Italian immigrant, a stone mason, who helped build a stone property fence around the Rockefeller estate in Pocantico Hills, NY. He also loved to garden; and on his small plot of ground, he grew the most beautiful blue hydrangeas-big, plump, colorful, blue blossoms which I loved. To this day, they are still my favorite flower. I had been trying to grow them for many years with little success-lots of foliage, few blossoms. But in the past few summers I've been able to garner enough blossoms to make some beautiful bouquets. And, of course, my inclinations to hold fast to things I love, inspired me to paint those blue hydrangeas from my memory and now from my own garden. This painting and two other hydrangea paintings are at the Gallerie 13.

Ah, there's nothing like blue flowers - one of my most favorite colors in the garden. Big round clusters of blue hydrangea are hard to beat!

Lovely painting, Cecelia. We will have to talk about Tarrytown, next time we see each other.

As I scan the various posts, Cecelia, I find I keep lingering at this one. Love the color -- it's a very happy painting!
