"Black Sand Beauty" by Debra Tritt-Kreiger

"Black Sand Beach"
Watercolor 10"x14" on 140lb arches paper

I painted this green sea turtle from a photo I took from a black sand beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. What a wonderful site to see. She was posing so nicely for me in the afternoon sun. The black sand beach was an amazing site to see. I keep telling my husband we have to go back for more research!

This painting can be viewed and purchased at 2nd Floor Gallery

Love the composition! The muted colors add an elegance to the turtle.

This is a great painting, Deb. It's always been one of my favorites. Your handling of animals and beaches is exquisite. Did your husband buy the research story? LOL

I love the diagonal composition--the diagonal direction and placement of the turtle, the black sand, and the water --all exquisitly rendered.

I saw this on Saturday at Second Floor Gallery. Your photo is great, but seeing the actual painting was a total pleasure. Your whole display at Second Floor is first class.

This is phenomenal, and the strong compositional elements really pull me into the painting. I like your research rationale...may have to be something I try here at home...hmmmm...I think I need to research French Impressionism...a trip to Giverney perhaps :)

Thank you Cecelia. The composition and placement of the turtle was key. Thanks Mary Beth and Claire. I've found that when I really love my subject matter I strive even harder for my audience to love it just as much. Claire, I think a trip is on the horizon.
