Pronghorn Antelope Study by Tatiana Myers

"Pronghorn Antelope study."
8 x 10"  Oil on panel.

Pronghorn Antelopes are just too cute to ignore them!... During our trip to the West we saw those little guys just about everywhere and I'm afraid I gave my husband a reason to think that I'm sort of obsessed with taking of numerous pictures of those creatures!..
Honestly, I just finding them very curious to observe and very good subject to paint.
But I didn't paint any.. till now. This is just a little study, but I'm sure I'll be working on painting(s)
of group of those beautiful animals and with some more picturesque background that just a some dry grass here and there.
However right now I need to go back and finish up few of my bigger projects. Therefore for the next several days it could be the last study I'm listing... or maybe not. All depends of what I'll have with time.

Available on e-bay.

"Daydreams" by Michael LeKites

I titled this Daydreams because it is a hill I sometimes daydream about owning a house on someday. It's an area a few miles from where we live now. Nice little spot. The painting is not entirely finished. A little more refinement will come once it dries. I have to bring the out trees just a little more on the top of the right hill but the paint is just too wet. Oil on canvas, 11x14.

Prepping for the First Watercolor of 2012 by Kathy Michels

Happy New Year everyone! Now that the holidays are wrapping up I have time to get
back to my art. I am finishing up this drawing this weekend and will start painting
on Monday. It's been a challenge to draw. It's a bit of organized chaos. There are alot of reflections in the glass and fun items behind the glass. Once I start painting - the bikes will be faded out so you will get a better idea of what's going on. Happy Painting for the New Year ahead!

"Art Museum Steps" by Taryn Day

oil on board
6"x6.5"

Here is a woman sitting on the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps, enjoying the December sun, and the backside of a begging man- two people who are not likely to cross paths again.   Forgive me the melodrama, but I can't help but think of the Longfellow quote:

Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing,
Only a signal shown and a distant voice in the darkness;
So on the ocean of life we pass and speak one another,
Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence.

"Fearless" by Deborah Nell

Fearless by Deborah Nell
11"x 14" Watermedia on Yupo paper

My paintings are on display at Glatfelter Public Library in Spring Grove this month and at Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover in January 2012. Can't believe it's almost 2012! Where has the year gone?

Gourd Nativity detail by Dianne Lorden

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! I've been mainly wood-burning and gourd crafting this month, so am sharing this detail from a traditional gourd creche I created. Above is a view of the outside, back, with the Magi and their camels. At top, a peek inside, where a gourd Baby Jesus rests in a gourd cradle, with Mary and Joseph (also gourds) look on adoringly. I was really tickled to find a tiny, leaning gourd for Mary!

House Alone, 30 x 40, Ron Donoughe

This is a house I've painted twice before. I like the way it sits on the edge of a hill all by itself. The trees seem to be guardians that frame it to anyone who approaches. I left out the parked cars and junk piles. Let's just call it artistic editing.

For anyone interested I'll be showing at First Night in downtown Pittsburgh, Dec. 31. The exhibition, The Painted City, is at 937 Liberty Ave. 6-11 pm. Here is the link for more info.

"Deadly Pass" by Michael LeKites

I'll  probably work on this a bit more through the weekend. A little refinement here and there. I may try to do something to bring the middle area into the foreground just a bit. Not sure. Things always look different in the morning. Oil on canvas, 16x20.

December Rapids by Julie Riker

8x10 oil

Today is the winter solstice - the first day of winter - but it felt more like April today with temperatures in the high 50's.  I knew I really should have stayed home and finished my holiday preparations, but the sunshine and warm weather beckoned me outside to paint.  I went to a spot on the Yellow Breeches Creek near Boiling Springs and did this small study of the rapids there.  I am not certain that this painting is done and  I might make a few adjustments to it another time, but it was great to be out.  I saw lots of people out walking, fishing, enjoying the nice day - even saw a guy fishing in shorts and flip flops!  I hope this is a sign that we will have a mild winter with many more plein air painting days ahead.
Happy Holidays to everyone!

'Sharpsburg Farm Lane'
Oil
16 x 12

This summer when I was painting with fellow friend and artist
Deb Richardson down on the Antietam Battlefield, she
graciously gave me a tour of some of the significant farms
that are found there.  I took photos, and made some notes
so that I could paint some of my favorite scenes  while
up in my studio this winter, and this is one of them.

Chambersburg St., pastel by Dianne Lorden

I documented the stages of this street scene, from a few years ago, because I was experimenting with an underpainting that used odorless turpenoid brushed over (what would be) contrasting pastel. It was too busy of a composition to try a technique that was new to me. I lost track of what I was attempting to do and, although I have used similar underpaintings since then, it's been a while. I think working in the studio over the coming winter will be a good time to experiment with this anew - on some less complicated pictures!

Winslow in Watercolor by Deb Watson

This is Winslow, painting with watermedia (transparent watercolor and acrylic) on arches paper on 8 x 8 stretcher bars. I stretched the paper and did a gallery wrap. It's a nice look and nice to work on, also. Winslow is sold, but I'm going to be doing a lot more small paintings in the upcoming year, in oil or watermedia, whichever suits the image best. www.debwatson.org

And the Angels sang, watercolor Christmas card by Linda Young

copyright Linda Young
Title:  And the Angels sang
Arches 300# CP WC Paper
What angels?
When I was finishing and painting the dark sky in, I began at the lightest area and worked outward.  Mixing the paint and applying it with my brush, an angel mysteriously appeared at the brightest point near the bottom left side of the star.  This was not planned and was one of those happy accidents we, as artists get from time to time.  Suddenly, the song " Glory to God in the Highest"  came to mind at that moment and I wanted to give the angel a few more celestial bodies around it to join in their singing. I painted in negative shapes a few more; but they just weren't as nice as the One that appeared on it's own.

Merry Christmas

Reaching Tree, 16 x 20, Ron Donoughe

Sometimes a simple shadow is the reward for seeing. I titled this Reaching Shadow because it appeared to extend the entire width of this oddly windowed house.

I usually don't paint interiors, but this one done seven years ago at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art was just acquired for their collection. I'm so proud to say this is the third piece of mine in their collection of American Art. Thank you to the Westmoreland Society and the museum for making this possible.  http://www.wmuseumaa.org/

Giving Life to a Watercolor Portrait by Kathy Michels

New Glowing Skin

Old Lifeless Portrait

This portrait was very muddy looking and had no life. I gave her several face lifts and repainted over and over until I was happy with her glowing skin. Each piece is a learning experience and an adventure.

Same reference, different painting. This time in oils. I'm working on those small studies to make company to my HB, while he is watching his TV shows. TEENSIE
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Teensie'
Oil
9 x 12

This is a painting of the one who rules the roost
in our house...we pretty much schedule our lives around
this beautiful grey tabby.  When we got her, she was so
tiny that I thought she was still a kitten - hence the name.
Once we got her home and to our vet, we found out that she
had already had a litter of kittens and he figured
she was at least one or two years old!

"Red Rocks of Sedona", 8 x 10" pastel.

This is my latest pastel piece finished this morning. It was one more experimental painting. I did it on hardboard teated with Golden acrylic primer for pastels to create a coarse brush-stroke structure what will give
to finished pastel more "painterly" look.
I did light underpainting with watercolor and then finished this small work with soft pastels.
